We are an experimental development program for women who have never worked for pay before, making mostly useful but always cool items out of materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
Our name, the garbage ladies, is a play on words in Turkish. It worked so well in the language we mostly operate in that we opted for the awkwardness of the English translation.
Our main workshop is in Ayvalik on the Aegean coast of Turkey. We also run a small workshop with KaMer in Diyarbakir, in the southeast.
Please resist the urge to check out out webpage just yet as it is under construction. Our friend Ilke is bringing it up to par as you read this. We will let you know when you can be impressed by a full view of our wares and what we do.
This blog however is mostly about setting up the workshop and perspectives on life and people in ths smallish town.
Our workshop is women, children, men and cat friendly. Come by if you are in the neighborhood! We are in Palabahce, which people know and don’t. If you get yourself to the ‘at arabalar meydani,’ the horse cart square, ask for ‘Seytan Suat’in kafvesi. We are on the opposite corner.
